Do the federal standards for tap water mean safe water?

You can find Waxahachie’s Water Quality Report here http://www.waxahachie.com/WQR-Waxahachie%20TX-Web-2015.pdf

In the document, you’ll see ALL DRINKING WATER CONTAINS CONTAMINANTS. Do the federal standards set forth mean the water is safe? According to the EWG, (the Environmental Working Group) https://www.ewg.org/ the answer is NO. The EWG specializes in the areas of toxic chemicals, water pollutants, and corporate accountability. According to the EWG’s website, the legal limits for contaminants in tap water have not been updated in over 20 years.

Contaminants like radium, chromium, chloroform, and arsenic find their way into our water. Medications & other biological contaminants also find their way into our home’s water supply. Equally alarming are the byproducts found in our water that are produced by disinfecting the water. These harmful by-products are chemicals like chlorine & ammonia, bromoform, chloroform, bromodichloromethane and more. The responsability falls us individually to ensure the water coming into our homes is filtered and safe to drink. This is why you need a whole-home water filtration system.

Duncan Plumbing knows what products like lead and copper can do to your home’s appliances, pipes & fixtures. We’ve seen problems with corrosion in Midlothian, Red Oak, Oak Leaf, Waxahachie, Maypearl, Italy and all around Ellis County. Mike Duncan of Duncan Plumbing Solutions notes, “We’ve seen a big problem with rusted and corroded fixtures, pipe failure and corroded water heaters.” Corrosion will cost you thousands overtime. These issues mean you have to replace your appliances and fixtures more frequently. Moreover, think what these harmful chemicals and elements do to your insides if they do this to your pipes.

Lead causes serious health problems. Lead is especially problematic for pregnant women and young children. Check the Waxahachie water report for lead. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT MY WATER?

When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds up to 2 minutes. In reality, that is something I don’t always do, says Erica Duncan. Therefore, a real solution for bad water is to install a whole-home water filtration system. Our water filtration units are unique because they filter hundreds of thousands of gallons of water before you have to change the filter. Likewise, our space-saving designs offer custom filtration for an easy path to healthier living. With our water filtration systems, you know the water you bathe in, drink and live by is safe.
