What are some of the most common plumbing problems?  The most common plumbing calls are slow drains, my sewer is backing up & my toilet runs constantly – which can mean the need for or a bad PRV- Pressure Reducing Valve. These most common calls are followed by calls for a dripping faucet. This includes a leaking kitchen faucet and a leaking outside faucet (also called a leaking hose bibb) or a leak under the sink. This article tackles the first 3 including how to prevent the problem in the first place.

SLOW DRAINS

Slow Drains is the top plumbing problem call we receive at Duncan Plumbing in Waxahachie. Did you know that people typically pee  6- 8 times a day?  Multiply that for each person in your household. That’s a LOT of paper going down the drain. Couple that with all the rest that goes down the drain in a day – things like grease from cooking, debris from your dishwasher, even lint from the wash machine and it’s a wonder every home in Waxahachie isn’t experiencing some type of back up. From garbage disposal backing up to the sink to toilet gurgles, every home will experience a sewer back up of some kind. The best course is to prevent slow drains before they happen.

HOW TO PREVENT SLOW DRAINS

The first problem can lead to the 2 nd most common plumbing problem:

HELP! MY SEWER IS BACKING UP

When waste comes out of the clean-out in your yard, you definitely have a sewer back up. You could also have  sewage backing up into the house. The sewer might back up into the tub or the sewer could come up the shower. Sewage can come from the base of the toilet. If there is a sewer main back up, the force of the sewer is going to be relieved in one way or another. That usually means it will back up into your house, if you don’t have cleanouts to allow the sewage to come back up into the yard.

The best course is to prevent problems in the first place (see above). Duncan Plumbing has several sewer machines, including machines with root cutter blades. When you call a Waxahachie Plumber, you want to be sure they have the right equipment. Our machines have hundreds of feet of cable to clear your sewer line and branch lines so your drains are back to flowing normally.

TOILET RUNS CONSTANTLY

When a call comes in to the best plumber near me asking why does my toilet run you have the 3rd most common plumbing problem. One reasons for a toilet that runs constantly is a broken flapper. Once the water exits the tank, the flapper closes the tank and reseals it. If the flapper is broken or if the flapper is cracked, the seal is not properly maintained so the water fills constantly. Another reason for a toilet runs constantly is a broken fill valve.

Waxahachie and surrounding areas that are growing can have water pressure issues. Regulating water pressure coming to hundreds of homes can be tricky. Normal water pressure is anywhere from 60-80 PSI. If the water pressure coming into your home is too high, you have major problems including pinhole leaks in your water lines, broken fixtures and that includes the toilet. If you have a toilet that is continually breaking and you find you are repairing the internal parts over and over, you could have high pressure issues. High pressure will cause the toilet to leak because of continual pressure on valves, hoses & gaskets. The internal parts of the toilet (and the rest of your home) are constantly under stress from the higher pressure. A pressure reducing valve or PRV is a necessary installation that will prevent serious damage to all parts of your home. More information is here:  https://duncanplumbingsolutions.com/?s=PRV
