Common Misconception #1 – Plumbing is a dirty job mostly about sewage

Plumbing includes any system that conveys fluid & gas includes water supply, gas, drainage, mechanical services like heating, cooling & ventilation, fire protection, irrigation and sanitary sewer. The word plumbing comes from the Latin word plumbum , which means lead. Lead was first used in the Roman era. Lead is abbreviated Pb on the periodic chart for this reason.

PLUMBERS INSTALL GAS & WORK WITH VARIOUS SPECIALTY GASSES, INCLUDING MEDICAL GASSES. IT’S ILLEGAL FOR ANYONE TO WORK ON PIPE OR APPLIANCES CONNECTED TO A PIPE CONNECTED TO A GAS MAIN UNLESS THEY HAVE THE SPECIAL LICENSE TO DO SO.

Plumbers are partially credited with curing The Black Plague. The Black Plague (aka the Bubonic Plague) was devastating and wiped out more than 1/3 of Europe’s population in the Middle Ages.  In fact, plumbers are credited with the eradication of many other deadly diseases like Cholera, Hanta Virus, Polio and we all know how important hand-washing is for Corona 19.  Unsanitary conditions are a breeding ground for diseases. While vaccination campaigns have made a huge impact, this is merely treating the symptom of a larger problem.  Clean water & sanitation are vital to keeping viruses & diseases at bay. The next time you fill a glass with clear, cold water, thank a plumber!

It takes up to 10 years of training and education to become a Master Plumber

Did you know it takes seven to ten years of education and training to become a plumber ? Two years of this training must be as a documented Journeyman Plumber. The distinction of Master Plumber is bestowed upon Journeyman Plumbers who have a minimum of five years of documented experience and professional references. Both must pass a complicated exam demonstrating their understanding of a comprehensive list of codes, rules & standards. Plumbers are overseen by the state’s testing board, the TSBPE.  So much goes into plumbing!

Common Misconception #2 –  Plumbers take their sweet time so they can charge more.

Duncan Plumbing offers flat rate pricing so no matter how long it takes a plumber to finish the job, you know your rate is the same.  Our plumbers draw from years of training and will explain exactly what is required for your repair and how much it will cost to complete the repair so you can decide to complete the repair. When you need experienced plumber near me, you know who to call. With so many trucks in the field, we must be consistent. So, all of our pricing is outlined clearly and you can see exactly what your rate is in black and white.

Common Misconception #3 – Plumbers are too expensive and most of them are a rip off.

“Expensive” is a relative term.   Expensive compared to what? Compared to the competitions rates or compared to fixing it yourself? Think about the alternative. Consider the worst possible scenario of going cheap or if your plumber disappears. We see the results of very bad plumbing every day. When it comes to your home and your family, you want a skilled plumber. Skilled plumbers are trained in the design, planning, and superintending of plumbing and in the practical installation, repair, and servicing of plumbing.

Whenever services are involved, smart buyers know that the best plumbers are not a commodity.  You can’t just interchange one pulse for another. A buyer considers the likelihood that the services they are buying will deliver the results they need.

Good plumbing isn’t cheap and cheap plumbing isn’t good! When you call a plumber to your home, you want an experienced & trained expert. Good plumbers have enough experience to know exactly what they are doing. They demand a fair wage for their experience. We’ve seen our share of bad plumbing. Bad sewer smells, no water pressure, low water pressure, water pressure that’s way too high, flies in the sewer line, constantly backing up toilet, shower or tub, no hot water, leaks. These are all common problems secondary to incorrect installation. The cost to come back and fix incorrect installations on valves, correcting the slope or elevation on a sewer line or things like an improper vent stack will cost you in the end by trying to save money with the cheapest option in the beginning.
